The Earthquake and Volcano Observatory has twofold functions as a seismic observation center that compose the nationwide seismic network and as an educational facility of seismology in Hirosaki University. We install and maintain the seismic network of our university, and gather seismic data from stations distributed in a wide area from central Hokkaido to northern Tohoku. The observatory serves as a foundation for basic research for prediction of earthquakes and volcanic eruption. The field of research using our data spans seismic activities, Earth's structure, and earthquake source processes.
We challenge an interdisciplinary study field of the medical science and engineering technology, and contribute to improve the Quality of Life through the development of surgical operation support system and medical devices based on the micro/nano-technology.
The research center is organized along several main themes: discovery of novel LC phases and materials; development of LC materials with a fast response speed for display devices; investigation of a new chemical reaction process in a lyotropic LC phase; and study of biological activity of liquid crystal-related compounds.
The core technologies we exploit for next generation IT infrastructure are a power conscious high speed ubiquitous processor, SMP PC cluster system, moving picture monitoring, HCI, semiconductor devices for a next generation network, and network troubles protecting processor.
The research center for ecological advanced materials aims to develop materials that put low stress on the environment for the next generation on basis of carbon-based and superconducting materials and device construction utilizing the ecological advanced materials to create an affluent future of the world.
